Downtown, Samara
Costa Rica

The small town of Samara lies on the southern pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula in the province of Guanacaste.

Samara is widely popular for having one of the safest beaches in Costa Rica thus making it a great destination for water sports such as Jet Skiing, sea kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, paragliding, and many more.

Thanks to the recent opening of La Amistad Bridge, driving time from San Jose is now 3 hours.  However, a short flight will have you in Samara in about 30 to 40 minutes.  You will be able to find at least two companies that fly to Samara.

Samara is an ideal place for a quite getaway or for a great vacation with the entire family.  The Samara beach, which can be reached by following the main road into Samara, offers 5 kilometers of sand great for recreational walks or nice early morning runs.  Just offshore, a stunning coral reef encloses the Samara bay thus making it a safe and fun beach to bring the family.

The town of Samara, although small, offers a number of supermarkets, gift shops, pubs and nightclubs for a fun night out.

Samara is also conveniently located as a starting point for visiting National Parks and Reserves in the area.  One of the most popular and sought out parks is the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge.  At an hour and a half away, Ostional is a THE place to witness one of the world’s largest sea turtle arrivals to shore.  Species such as the leatherback (Baula) and the Olive Ridley (Lora) are frequently seen arriving ashore.  The best time to experience this wonderful event is close to the last quarter of the moon and during the months of June through December. Although you will still be able to witness the sea turtles arriving ashore during the dry season, the most spectacular view would be during the rainy season.
