Limon ready to welcome the Veragua Rainforest Research and Adventure Park
The tourism investment in Limon has always been very shy in spite of the region’s rich and spectacular environment. However, a group of Costa Rican investors have boldly designed a project along with the Costa Rican National Institute of Biodiversity (INBio) which promises to be a huge success.
The province of Limon in Costa Rica’s Atlantic Coast has always been behind in comparison to the rest of the country in regards to the tourism industry. The province only has seven official registered tour companies, which are quite limited if you consider the large amount of cruise ships which dock in the area per year. The Veragua Rainforest Research and Adventure Park promises new labor opportunities to the locals as well as a new era of attraction in the region.
The importance and magnitude of this project can be measured by the interest and sponsor of the Nature Conservancy as well as the Conservation International organizations. These two organizations are internationally known for only financing serious and committed projects that will preserve and promote environmental programs.
The park is located near La Amistad International Park which forms the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor . This is the largest protected area in all Central America, with over one million acres of rainforest which spreads throughout Costa Rica’s southern region to Panama’s northern region.
The park will be accessible to people of all ages and physical condition. Some of the attractions include a sky tram for viewing the amazing rainforest from the tree tops, a serpentarium, a frog house and a butterfly farm which were set up by the INBio. Hiking areas as well as adventure tours will be incorporated to the park as well.
