The Costa Rican Soccer Federation released a total of 17,000 tickets on Monday, June 29th for the game between Costa Rica and Mexico scheduled for September 5th, 2009. In just a matter of hours, something very rare in the Costa Rican culture, tickets had been completely sold out.
Tickets went on sale through the website of the Banco Nacional de Costa Rica as well as the online ticket retailer Specialticket.net. According to a local fan, by 9am Monday morning, the specialticket.net website reported all tickets as sold out.
The soccer game between Costa Rica and Mexico will take place at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium in Tibas. Both countries will be disputing a slate for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
Costa Rica currently stands in first place for the North, Central America and Caribbean group with a total of 12 points. Costa Rica is followed by the United States with 10 points, Honduras with 7 and Mexico with 6.
The Mexicans will face a strong ticos team in September and will need to give it their all in order to guarantee a place in the finals. Although Costa Rica had a rocky start in the beginning of the tournament, Kenton’s boys have proven to be a strong a well organized team that will certainly give Mexico a hard time.
Those looking for lodging options will have to look into Costa Rica hotels in the downtown San Jose area. The Ricardo Saprissa Stadium in Tibas is located at just 10 minutes from downtown San Jose.
