The Costa Rican Department of Transportation has given the thumbs-up to two regional airlines so that the flight frequency between Mexico and Costa Rica can be increased. This is the first time in over 15 years that both nations will increase their flight frequency between countries.
The agreement was reached after authorities from the Costa Rican Civil Aviation Technical Council (CETAC) and the Mexican Aviation’s department reached a bilateral agreement.
The new disposition will allow for Lacsa aircrafts, operated by TACA, to increase their current frequency of six weekly flights to 14 while Mexico’s Mexicana de Aviación will increase its 10 weekly flights to 14.
The increase in flight frequencies will be a great advantage for both business travelers and tourists as it will add more travel options and schedules for their convenience.
Although the agreement was recently reached between each country’s aviation authorities, it will be the airlines’ responsibility to set the new schedule of its new flights as well as to the date these new frequencies will begin.
Flight frequency between two of the region’s strongest tourist and business destinations is a clear sign of the high demand of access and flexibility each nation is experiencing.

For many European travelers, a trip across the Atlantic Ocean should be one that is worthwhile and rewarding in every sense of the word. This is why the countries that make up the Central American region have come together to promote the area as one market.
In the recently concluded World Travel Market 2008 held in London, Central America was present as one brand offering a variety of attractions that include history, culture and most of all nature. The Central American region alone holds 7% of the world’s biodiversity making it one of the fastest growing eco-tourism destinations in the world.
Costa Rica, Belice, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama attracted a number of attendees at the World Travel Market under the “Central America, so small …so big” concept.
The Costa Rican Minister of Tourism, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, mentioned to an international press agency that although Costa Rica counts with a robust international fame, it could boost up its popularity by being part of a larger tourist destination.
Unlike Costa Rica, Honduras for example is not as popular among tourists as they would like to be. In a recent survey, only 2 out every 10 European tourists that visit the Central American have heard about Honduras. Each country has their own history, culture and natural attraction that when promoted as a whole, could become very attractive to the European tourist.
Several hotel online booking services, travel agencies and airlines have grasped this concept and joined forces to offer not only variety but quality as well within the region. The Central American Travel Agency (CATA) has been responsible for the flight frequency increase between Spain and Central America while online services such as Hotel Pure offer hotels in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama.
