Costa Rican Tourism Industry Prepares for Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Award
The Costa Rican Bureau of Tourism (ICT) has released the communication made by the Condé Nast Traveler organization in which tourism companies are encouraged to participate in winning the World Saver Award.

Conde Nast Traveller
The award is given out to companies within the travel industry that show leadership and breakthrough in sustainability and social responsibility. Judges appointed by the organization evaluate 5 important areas within the social responsibility theme.
The 5 areas scrutinized by the judges are education, health, poverty relief, cultural and environmental preservation, and wildlife conservation. Costa Rica hotels, car rentals, airlines, tour operators and all tourist related businesses have until Monday February 16th to turn in the application for the 2009 Awards.
In 2008, two Costa Rican companies received honorable mentions at the awards thanks to their commitment and hard work with local communities as well as environmental protection and conservation. The Costa Rican company Rios Tropicales was a finalist among 38 world wide companies in 2008. Rios Tropicales is an eco-adventure company which has committed to sustainability and environmental issues.
The domestic Costa Rican airline Nature Air was also a finalist in 2008 due to its achievement of becoming the first airline to become Carbon-Neutral Certified as well as for joining the United Nations Carbon Neutral Pledge.
Both of these Costa Rican companies have also worked hard in developing community programs that will help them in developing the right tools for a self sufficient progress of the community.
The ICT expects that more Costa Rican companies will turn in their applications this year and that the country may continue to grow in its fight against global warming and environmental protection.
