Traveling to Costa Rica for the first time by wife and I chose this hotel for our first 3 days of our 10 day trip. We rented a 4×4 in Liberia and after making the turn off the main road encountered a long (approx 18 KM) but unique drive up to the Hacienda Guachipelin. Drove through several small towns and Curubande, which was fun and really got a feel for the Costa Rica culture.

Our room had 2 beds, was very large with a very nice bathroom and deck. Very romantic for us and pretty much had the resort to ourselves for the first day. Internet was available all over the place. Most of our time was spent in the wonderful hot pools and also the very nice regular pool. We hiked out side of the resort up to where the the zip line tour starts. A very nice 30 to 45 minute walk with breath taking mountain views and green rolling hills. We saw howler monkeys several times.

Not wanting to drive back down the hill toward Liberia we opted to dine at La Hacienda each night for dinner. We are VERY happy with the food quality and service for evening dining, The steak was incredible and the service was very above par.

The included desayuno was a very nice morning event served in the outside dining area. Traditional Costa Rica Breakfast was served the first day and the next was an American breakfast. The setting alone makes this meal special.

Over all we loved this place so much we did venture out on many of the offered tours……… but all the people we spoke with said they enjoyed the ATV, Horse, and Zip line tours.

Had a super experience with this all inclusive package. We stayed two nights, went horse back riding, to the mud/hot springs, hiked in the national park Rincon De La Vieja, tubing down the Rio Negro, and a zip line trip through the canopy. The buffet has lots of fresh fruits and good vegetable dishes. For me, it was too bland and did not have enough local flavor, but I am sure this appeals to a lot of travelers.

Had the sense that they get a lot of European travelers there? It was a great value for all the things we did. The ride up the dirt road to the ranch is bone jarring but thankfully relatively short. All the excursions were super fun. The room was very nice, very quiet. Staff is friendly and helpful. I made use of my pathetic Spanish here, not as many fluent English speakers as you find on the coasts.

A gorgeous setting.
